Charnelle Pinkney Barlow will be participating in the 29th Annual African American Children’s Book Fair. The fair will be held virtually on Saturday, February 6, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. Hosted by the African American Children’s Book Project (AACBP), the book fair is one of the oldest and largest single-day events for children’s books in the country. Register for the Fair here
Above The Rim (Abrams) by Jen Bryant, illustrated by Frank Morrison, and Sharuko (Lee & Low) by Monica Brown, illustrated by Elisa Chavarri, have both been recognized as ALA Notable Children’s Books for 2021. Each year a committee of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) identifies the best of the best in children’s books. According to the Notables Criteria, “notable” is defined as: Worthy of note or notice, important, distinguished, outstanding. As applied to children’s books, notable should be thought to include books of especially commendable quality, books that exhibit venturesome creativity, and books of fiction, information, poetry and pictures for all age levels (birth through age 14) that reflect and encourage children’s interests in exemplary ways.
