Julia Patton lives and works in a rustic woodshed in rural Northumberland, UK and would describe herself as a wildling at heart. Her creative journey began when she was very small after receiving an enormous cardboard box for her birthday overflowing with art materials from a dear aunt. She continued her creative pathway studying MA in Illustration from Edinburgh University where she discovered and fell in love with picture books, an intoxicating world where pictures and words collide. Creating both the narrative and aesthetic makes Julia feel complete and she believes it’s her responsibility to illuminate characters, suggest the magical whilst interpreting the unspoken. Julia’s picture books are inspired by her extensive adventures visiting family scattered around the globe. Her illustration style is a combination of traditional and digital mixed media collages, hand drawn typography with a passion for diagrams and gadgets. When she’s not in the studio you’ll find Julia making tree houses and wild camping.
