Painted Words Licensing Group exhibited at SURTEX2014_DownloadableLogoat the Javits Center this May. We welcomed two new artists to the group in 2014,  husband and wife duo, Eric Comstock and Julie Comstock. It was exciting to finally reveal to the licensing industry what wonderful work these talented designers have been creating. Designer Lucie Crovatto joined us in the booth all the way from Quebec to showcase her new collections, Christmas Sweet Fun and Puffy Teddy. New collections from many of our designers debuted at the show, including Michael Slack’s Monster School and Eric Barclay’s Mondrian-inspired collection, Mon Petit. Maranda Maberry’s crowd-pleaser from last year’s show, Crazy Cats, was back with eight new feline friends, and Vanessa Brantley Newton’s Angels collection expanded with adorable new characters.

Overall, the show was a huge success! Thanks to all of our hard-working designers, and to everyone who stopped by the booth and made this Surtex one of our best years yet.

lend a handLend a Hand, written by John Frank and illustrated by London Ladd, will hit stores on July 1st, and has already received a glowing review from Kirkus. From the review: “Ranging from quiet, solitary acts such as writing a letter to a soldier stationed abroad to publicly cheering for the class klutz’s first hit at bat, these 14 free-verse poems and Ladd’s richly textured accompanying acrylic-and-pastel spreads show how easy and rewarding extending oneself can be.” To read more, click here.

K.G.’s second author-illustrated picture book, The Mermaid and the Shoe is available now from Kids Can Press. The book received a Starred Review from Kirkus.

“Delicate, ethereal watercolor-and-colored pencil illustrations rely on muted blue-gray washes accented with splashes of color to convey Neptune’s underwater kingdom, with its flora and fauna…Although this luminous tale of self-discovery hs echoes of ‘The Litte Mermaid,’ like Minnow, it sings its own strong song.”
