Alyssa Bermudez’s new illustrated picture book, Singing Nana, written by Pat Mora, has received praise from Kirkus Reviews. Coming out October 15th from Magination Press, the book is about one family’s experience with Alzheimer’s. Kirkus commends “Bermudez’s colorful, vibrant scenes” saying they “offer a window and a mirror to culture and custom,” and describes the book as a “tender tribute to families who have loved ones suffering from dementia.” Publishers Weekly calls the book, “A winning story that also serves as a useful family resource.”

The Roots of Rap, illustrated by Frank Morrison, won the Silver Medal and The King of Kindergarten illustrated by Vanessa Brantley Newton will be exhibited in the show. Two new books hit the shelves September 10th! Ashley Spires’ Fairy Science, introduces readers to Esther, a fairy who doesn’t believe in magic. She believes in SCIENCE. Kirkus praised the book as “A magical addition to the STEM shelf.” Joanie Stone has also released her new book Me and the Sky! This biography on Beverly Bass, the first female co-pilot of American Airlines and the inspiration for the character in the Broadway musical Come From Away, is a story of determination and passion. Kirkus says Stone’s “retro, cartoonish illustrations…evoke spirited enthusiasm”.

Ashley Spires’ graphic novel series, Binky the Space Cat, is now on TV! On September 7th, Agent Binky: Pets of the Universe produced by Nelvana premiered on Treehouse in Canada. Similar to the books, the show follows Binky and his fellow pet agents as they fight off the “aliens” aka flies to protect their human families.
