Geraldo Valério was born in Brazil. The house he grew up in had a backyard resplendent with brightly colored birds. He learned about shapes and composition by studying leaves, flowers, plants, egret feathers and speckled fish. Geraldo’s journey as an artist took him to New York University where he earned a Master of Arts degree. By letting his dreams wander, he now makes illustrations that convey movement, emotion, and narrative. Watch out for leaping animals and singing deer! His work has been published in Canada, the US, Brazil, Portugal, France, the UK and China. Greece and Turkey, too! His nature books for all ages, such as My Book of Butterflies and My Book of Birds, are exquisitely rendered and richly detailed. Fun Fact: A paperback version of Do You Have a Hat? was placed in over one million boxes of Cheerios cereal as part of its Spoonful Of Stories program for young readers. Scholastic selected Blue Rider for its Rising Voices: Elevating Latino Stories catalog. Geraldo loves to draw, make collage, and create imaginary worlds in his studio in Toronto, Canada.
