Betsy Thompson is a self-taught artist with a background in education. For the past 25 years, Betsy has been in the field of education in a variety of roles – as a classroom teacher, an educational consultant, program evaluator, curriculum developer, and, currently, as a homeschooling parent. Betsy began her career as an artist and illustrator in 2007, regularly showing in galleries throughout New England. One of her primary goals as a mixed media artist is to make art more accessible and to engage her viewers, adults and children alike, by drawing them in through the use of color, movement, shapes, and storytelling. Her first author/illustrated picture book, Eggs 1, 2, 3…Who Will the Babies Be? was awarded a 2012 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Book Award and was included on the New York Public Library’s 2012 list, Children’s Books: 100 Titles for Reading & Sharing. As an artist and educator, Betsy strongly believes in the power of books in children’s lives – as a vehicle for escape, the discovery of new worlds, and the development of creativity and imagination. It has always been her dream to create beautiful and meaningful stories for children.
