Newton, Clayton Byrd Goes Underground illustrated by Frank Morrison, and The Legendary Miss Lena Horne illustrated by Elizabeth Zunon, were each recognized for Outstanding Merit. The Children’s Book Review’s 25 Best New Picture Books Includes Thirsty, Thirsty Elephants, Illus. by Fabricio Vanden Broeck

The Children’s Book Review released a list of 25 Best New Picture Books for April. Included on this list was the picture book Thirsty, Thirsty Elephants, written by Sandra Markle and illustrated by Fabricio Vanden Broeck. This lovely book tells the story, based on facts, of an elephant herd searching for water in the midst of a drought and eventually finding it thanks to Grandma Elephant’s long memory.
